The Harlequin Theatre & Cinema, Redhill
11 December 2015 to 03 January 2016
This year’s Aladdin pantomime at the Harlequin Theatre, Redhill, will take audiences on a first class flight of pure panto gold when Lee Latchford-Evans steps into the title role.
Come and cheer on Aladdin, Wishee Washee and Widow Twankey as they do battle with the evil sorcerer Abanazar. Will our handsome hero find true love with the delectable Princess Jasmine?
Steps favourite Lee sold over 20 million records with the sensational pop band, taking the country by storm with their catchy hits and cover versions. Over the first five years they were together, Steps achieved chart success with two number-one singles (one a double A-side), two number-one albums, 14 consecutive top five singles and a string of hits throughout Europe. In addition to a BRIT Award nomination, the group supported Britney Spears on a worldwide tour before calling it a day at the end of 2001.
In 2011, Steps reformed and appeared in their own reality series called Steps Reunion, which followed them as they rebuilt their friendships. Such was the success of the show a second series followed the group on their first arena tour in over ten years, airing in 2012.
Lee is no stranger to theatre having trained at the prestigious Laine Theatre Arts. Recent tours have included All Creatures Great and Small, playing Tristan Farnon, and Beauty and the Beast, and in the star-studded production of Rita, Sue and Bob too at the Theatre Royal, St Helens.
A qualified personal trainer and a 2nd Dan black belt in kickboxing will guarantee Lee is in top form when he appears as our hero Aladdin. The production will be a playground of pedigree pantomime magic, with stunning special effects, creative scenery ranging from the streets of Old Peking to Abanazar’s Arabian harem via a jewel encrusted cave, exciting choreography and live music, plus the essential audience participation.
Paul Holman said of the panto: “I’m thrilled Lee will be headlining a very strong cast of family favourites in Redhill this December. We have recently confirmed the return of Neil Wheatley, Simon Bashford and Abigail Welford, three quality performers who have established themselves in the hearts of Harlequin panto audiences and with Lee now joining them, it’s not surprising the production is already showing signs of being a record-breaker.”
Lee will be on board the magic carpet as Aladdin from Friday 11 December until Sunday 3 January 2016. Tickets are available from the Harlequin Theatre box office (01737 276500) and online at www.harlequintheatre.co.uk.
